Embark on an extraordinary 7-day adventure that takes you through the heart of Tanzania’s most iconic wildlife destinations—Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. From the iconic Great Migration to the vibrant wildlife of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, this safari promises to be an unforgettable journey into nature’s wonder. This itinerary is designed to offer an in-depth exploration of Tanzania’s spectacular landscapes, teeming with diverse species, dramatic vistas, and the thrill of being in the wild. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned safari-goer, you’ll witness nature in its purest form, up close and personal, while staying in comfortable, well-appointed lodges and camps that immerse you in the African wilderness.
DAY 1 – Arrival & Transfer to Karatu
Transfer from Kilimanjaro Airport to Karatu (2 and a half hour drive)
Program: Your safari begins with a warm welcome at Kilimanjaro International Airport. From there, you’ll be transferred to Karatu, a charming town nestled between the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. Along the way, we can stop by bustling local markets for a glimpse of the vibrant culture, or simply enjoy the scenic drive as you make your way to your lodge. The rest of the day is free to relax at your lodge and get ready for the exciting days ahead.
Activities: Optional visit to local markets or relax at the lodge.
Accommodation: Dinner and overnight stay at Farm of Dreams Lodge, Marera Lodge, or Kudu Lodge.
DAY 2 & DAY 3 – Serengeti Ndutu: The Great Migration
Transfer from Karatu to Serengeti Ndutu (3-hour drive, with a game drive)
Program: After a hearty breakfast, we begin our journey to Serengeti Ndutu, crossing the scenic Ngorongoro Highlands. The Ndutu area is an essential stop on your safari, particularly during the Great Migration season. Between December and March, the herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles gather here to graze on the rich grasslands, making it the perfect spot to witness the epic struggle of survival in nature. This area is also home to predators waiting to hunt—lions, cheetahs, and hyenas can often be seen on the prowl.
Activities: Enjoy thrilling game drives with a focus on the Great Migration, and if you visit in February, you may be lucky enough to witness the wildebeest calving season.
Accommodation: Dinner and overnight stay at Kati Kati Ndutu Tented Camp, Tanzania Migration Bush Camp, or Mbugani Migration Tented Camp.
DAY 4 & DAY 5 – Serengeti Central: The Heart of the Serengeti
Transfer from Serengeti Ndutu to Serengeti Central (1-hour drive, with a game drive)
Program: After breakfast, we depart for the central Serengeti, an area renowned for its breathtaking beauty and rich wildlife. Serengeti National Park is one of the most famous parks in Africa, covering over 15,000 square kilometers of undulating savannah, dotted with acacia trees and vast plains. Here, you’ll encounter an incredible variety of wildlife, including lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, and countless bird species. The Serengeti’s vast expanse offers prime opportunities for game drives, where you can observe nature at its most majestic.
Activities: Enjoy two full days of game drives, exploring the Serengeti’s diverse ecosystems.
Accommodation: Dinner and overnight stay at Kati Kati Tented Camp, Tanzania Bush Camp, or Mbugani Tented Camp.
DAY 6 – Serengeti & Ngorongoro: An Epic Day of Game Viewing
Game drive in Serengeti & transfer to Ngorongoro (2-3 hours drive)
Program: After an early breakfast, you’ll embark on your final game drive in the Serengeti. As you explore the park’s vast plains, keep an eye out for the iconic predators, elephants, and grazing herds. After your morning game drive, you’ll drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you’ll spend the night on the crater rim, surrounded by stunning views of the caldera.
Activities: Game drive in Serengeti, followed by a scenic drive to Ngorongoro.
Accommodation: Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge.
DAY 7 – Ngorongoro Crater: A Unique Ecosystem
Transfer from Ngorongoro Crater to Karatu (30-minute drive)
Program: Your adventure culminates with a visit to one of the world’s most remarkable natural wonders—the Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a geological marvel, often referred to as “Africa’s Garden of Eden.” The crater is home to a high concentration of wildlife, including black rhinos, lions, elephants, and flamingos, making it a must-see for any safari enthusiast. After a picnic lunch within the crater, you’ll drive back to Karatu for your final overnight stay.
